Lucia - Ein Tag für der Licht

Today is the Lucia-day in Sweden and parts of Finland. It is feasted to remember Sanct Lucia from Syracuse in Sicily. The story is kind of macabre, but it has transformed to a sweet tradition where all kinds of "Lucia-tåg" is arranged all over the country. It involves by standard one Lucia, in white robe, red waistband to symbolise martyr death, candles in the hair for the flames that killed her. She is often accompanied by one or many Tärnor, they are girls without candles in the hair. And the boys would be "Staffan stalledrängs" with star on a stick and a cane on the head.

In these times of equality and freedom-of-choise, the composition of such processions differs a lot from the additional one. Often one or many elfs, and gingerbread-boys. For us, the 5-year old N is at a kindergarten where they every year runs this procession at 1600 sharp. Outside. No matter the weather. So. Today me and many other parents spent roughly half an hour in -8 centigrades, clapping our mittens and smiling. The kids are so CUTE!

A somewhat different kind of Lucia-tåg... These beauties belongs to a dear friend of mine, Malin. Jack is in front of the wagon and Liane is relaxing in the cart. (And yes. The picture is somewhat arranged, but on the other hand, what isn't.)
